Lotte's Park Se-woong (29) is busy this year even in the offseason.
After the regular season ended on Oct. 1, Park started preparing for the season a little earlier than usual. "I started working out early this year. Originally, it was a time to take a break, but I also went to the training center and I'm going to throw the ball early," Park said in a phone call.
I'm trying to come up with various ways to improve next season. Park Se-woong said, "I heard that a program at the Drive Line Center will come to Korea in early December. That's why I applied and I'm getting ready to participate in the program."
The Driveline Baseball Center in Seattle in the U.S. is known to host programs that help pitchers improve their skills. Clubs also dispatched promising pitchers to increase their skills by boosting their speed.
Park Se-woong said, "It was a car that I had a plan to go to the U.S. and exercise at the right time. But I heard that it was coming to Korea from that side," adding, "It's a well-known center in the baseball field, and I have a lot of thoughts about upgrading what I have, so I came to participate."
Park had six wins and 11 losses and an earned run average of 4.78 in 30 games this season. The record fell short of the performances she has displayed in recent years.
Park Se-woong, who served as the team's "Ace," accumulated double-digit wins for the second consecutive year with 10-9 losses in 2021 and 10-11 losses in 2022. Last year, he recorded 9 wins, 7 losses and an ERA of 3.45 in 27 games, just short of 10 wins, but he contributed to leading the gold medal in the Asian Games.
It was because of this performance that Lotte manager Kim Tae-hyung called Park Se-woong "Ace" as soon as he took office.
However, he suffered unexpected ups and downs this season. He was shaken from the beginning of the season. From the game against LG Electronics on April 18 to the game against Kiwoom on May 1, he seemed to be recovering by recording quality starts in three consecutive games, but his pitching continued in various ways and this pattern was repeated until mid-August. Fortunately, he regained his pitching from the end of August and recorded 12 runs (ten earned runs) and 2.78 ERA in 32.1 innings in the five games in September, but at that time, he failed to add more wins as he was not supported by the batters.
"I have a lot of greed to do well every time, and I wanted to do well. There were many games that I couldn't throw and there were games that allowed me to win in a timely manner, but I still have a lot of regrets," Park said. "The ostensible performance was bad. It is a less satisfactory season than two years ago and last year."
Pitcher coach Joo Hyung-kwang also sympathized with Park's feelings as a pitcher. "Coach Park also said, 'There are seasons when you can't do anything. I tried to think a lot about it. I also thought it was because I spent a lot of luck winning medals at the Asian Games last year," Park said with a smile.
Some analysts say Park may have been fatigued as she has played many innings so far, including starting rotation and participating in international competitions. However, Park said, "I think that's an excuse. Rather than making excuses, I want to prepare for the next season more firmly."
It was a difficult season, but Park Se-woong found income in his own way. "I'm satisfied that I had a good performance in the second half of the season and threw a lot of innings. There were a lot of things I was disappointed about this season, but if I had to pick one of the good parts, it was innings," he said.
Park Se-woong played 173.1 innings this year. It is the second time since 2017 that Park has exceeded 170 innings. 2017 was the first year that Park Se-woong posted double-digit wins since his debut in the first division. That year, Park went 171.1 innings in 28 games with a 12-6 record with a 3.68 ERA.
He is committed to perform well in line with the title of "Ace" for the next season. Lotte manager Kim Tae-hyung used to say to Park Se-woong, "Park Se-woong is enough."
Park Se-woong also said, "I wanted to live up to the fact that the coach told me since he took office and trusted me. It is regrettable that the performance I expected came out at the end of the season, but I want to prepare again from now on and bring it to a good appearance next season." 온라인바카라
The preparation method has changed slightly, but the goal is the same. "My goal every year was the same," Park said. "I will prepare well and throw 170 innings as well as 3 ERA next season. I will prepare myself to win more games."
